Pinay Actress Mercedes Cabral to Star in Park Chan-wook’s ‘Thirst’

Young Filipina actress Mercedes Cabral has been choses to star in a South Korean film to be directed by 2004 Cannes Grand Prix-winning filmmaker Park Chan-wook.

Cabral, a 21 year-old UP Fine Arts student was Park’s personal choice from among several Asian hopefuls to star in “Thirst”, a horror-film now in pre-production. Shooting is scheduled to start in April.

“Hindi po ako makapaniwala na mapipili ako. Nagpadala lang po kami ng screener ko at nagustuhan naman nila. I am kinda nervous. (I couldn’t believe myself. We just sent a screener to Korea and they liked it very much),” Mercedes confided to abs-cbnnews.com.

A favorite in the independent film circuit, Cabral recently proved her acting skills by winning the Best Supporting Actress award at the 2007 UP Inbox TV and Radio Festival for her sterling performance in the digital film “Bitin,” produced by Good Vibes Productions. Read the rest of this entry »

Filipina actress Mercedes Cabral, who went to the 61st Cannes Film Festival as part of the Filipino delegation and castmember of “Serbis”, the Brillante Mendoza film now in competition for the Palm d’Or and other awards, has been included in the roster of most beautiful women to walk the red carpet in this year’s Cannes.

And, truly, she looks every inch the Filipina beauty in her photo call shot for “Serbis” as can be seen in this gallery.

Kim Chiu Lands Lead Role for Philippine version of My Girl

kim chiu and gerald andersonABS-CBN - the Philippines Biggest TV station has secured the franchise for the 2006 hit Korean series “My Girl” from South Korea’s SBS, which will be aired starting May 26,2008. This type of collaboration between two giant television networks is a first between the two Asian countries.

The role of Yoo Rin, also known as Jasmine by Filipino koreanovela fans which was originally played by Lee Da Hae, will be played by Kim Chiu while the rest of the cast is Gerald Anderson, Enchong Dee, Alex Gonzaga, David Chua, Regine Angeles and Nina Jose.

Kim Chiu, the first Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition winner, was shocked to discover that she had the part and said giddily in an interview: “Sobrang thank you po sa lahat. Thank you po sa fans, sa ABS-CBN… it’s another wish granted.” (Translation: “Thank you very much to everyone.
