Floyd Mayweather beats Shane Mosley via unanimous decision
Saturday night in front of a sold out crowd at the MGM in Vegas, Floyd Mayweather was able to beat Shane Mosley in a 12 round battle after almost being finished off in the second round. The star studded crowd which contained Muhammad Ali was entertained although Mayweather actually never dropped Mosley, but clearly dominated the fight by the middle rounds.
Mosley tried a few different tactics, none of which worked as Floyd seemed to be able to land whatever he wanted whenever he wanted.
One judge scored the fight at 118-110 while the other two came up with 119-109. All the judges agreed by giving him every round from the third on.
Mayweather landed many powerful punches to the head and really made Mosley show his age. Despite his every attempt to answer, he just couldn’t keep up with the speed and pace of the fight set by Mayweather who is several years younger. Mosley’s chance came in the second round when he connected on a hard right that almost dropped Mayweather.
He seemed to have him as he followed him around the ring landing several more right until the bell saved the day for Mayweather. After that, Mayweather was able to regroup himself and was able to dictate the pace of the fight.
Money wise, Mosley walks away with 7 million while Mayweather’s guarantee was 22.5 million, both fighters also were able to share in the lucrative TV revenues that will follow.
Mosley attributed most of his performance to the 15 month layoff he had since his last fight and also revealed that he was dealing with a stiff neck as well.
