Philippine International Mathematics Competition

Iloilo City is now prepared to host this year’s ‘Philippine International Mathematics Competition’ that will gather some 100 teams from about 30 countries worldwide slated November 28 to December 2.

The competition that will gather mathematics wizards will not only serve as avenue for the exchange of ideas and information about the subject matter but will likewise provide an avenue for participants to also experience the Ilonggo hospitality.

The Iloilo City Tourism and Development Office (CTDO), which is facilitating the preparation for the big event, will be showcasing ‘Dinagyang Festival’ a hall of fame awardee for best tourism event in the country.

Participants can also request for a visit to some of the city’s historical sites.

The event is organized by the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild (MTG) -Philippines with the support of the Department of Education (DepEd) and Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The competition has two categories, namely: the Asia Inter-Cities Teenagers Mathematics Olympiad (AITMO) – secondary level and Philippine Elementary Mathematics International Contest (PEMIC) -for the primary or elementary level.

Meantime, the activity is also expected to provide participants to show their potentials, gain friends and “develop, guide and improve the mathematics curricular offerings from different countries.”

Participants to the event are expected to arrive on November 28 while the contest proper will be held on November 30 at the Iloilo Grand Hotel.
