Philippines to host Eco-products International Fair 2009

The Eco-products International Fair 2009, the largest international environmental fair and conference in Asia, is scheduled to be held at the SMX Convention Center on March 19-22, 2008, with the theme “Sustainable Production, Sustainable Consumption, Sustainable Future.”

Organized by Asian Productivity Organization, Development Academy of the Philippines and the Philippine Business for the Environment, the event will gather the key international players and executives from leading corporations under one roof.

The Eco-products International Fair has earned a reputation as an environmental exhibition for the general public and consumers, providing the perfect opportunity for more effective promotion of green brands and environmental marketing to the general public and consumers.

The fair will feature eco-products, environmental initiatives, eco-services, environmental technologies and businesses.

Eco-products are made from improved raw materials, use less energy and resources and produce less waste and emissions. Eco-product use results in energy and resource savings, lower emission levels and reductions in waste and the need for waste treatment.

When reused, recycled, and disposed of, eco-products reduce the amount of waste released to the environment and reduce hazardous waste/pollution released to the environment.

Eco-products and services bear eco-labels. They have a long life expectancy. They are products that can be transformed into services. They are products and services that can improve the environment.

The participants will include key political, economic and business players and experts, ministers and government administrators from participating nations, important academics, and senior executives from leading environmental corporations, providing plentiful opportunity for exchange of information and views relating to the environment.

The 5th Eco-products International Fair will be held against the backdrop of the sustainability of the global environment which is now being threatened by far-reaching climate change caused by rising greenhouse emissions, said Mr.Teisuke Kitayama, Chairman, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, who is the chairperson of the Preparatory Committee for the Eco-products International Fair.

This year marks the start of the first commitment period of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, spurring efforts to reduce greenhouse gases and promote emissions trading.
