Philippine women National basketball team wants to train in China
Despite uncertainty of basketball inclusion in the 25th Southeast Asian Games, the Philippine women’s basketball team is eyeing foreign training in preparation for the biennial meet in December in Laos.
RP team manager Cynthia Tiu revealed on Tuesday their plan to train in Shanghai, China during a courtesy call on newly-appointed Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Harry Angping.
”We trained already in Shanghai and the training was effective because we face strong team during the tune-up games,” national coach team Haydee Ong said.
During the courtesy call, the national team asked for financial assistance from Angping for their China training.
Angping said his office will review the proposal of the team.
”We still have to look at it. Anyway, we still have a few weeks to decide because their training is set in March,” said Angping.
Aside from SEAG, the RP women cage squad is also preparing for the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) championship slated in June in Thailand.
The SEABA is a qualifier for the FIBA-Asia slated in Chinese-Taipei on the last week of the same month.
The Philippines, with the help of other countries like Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia, is lobbying for the inclusion of basketball in Laos SEA Games.

my greatest ambition is to play basketball, to make it a carreer. just like my idols in the pba. i want to make it big. but the problem is i dont have the training but i do know how to play the game. i know that here in our country women’s basketball is not given much hipe as the men’s basketball so its even harder for us women who really loves basketball to pursue our ambition. i hope that one day there will be like a a PBA for women so that we can showcase our talent. thank you…
