Joey Ayala lauds Musikahan
National artist Joey Ayala was impressed with the musical endeavor of Tagum City.
In an interview with the media during the opening of 2009 Musikahan sa Tagum held over the weekend, Ayala agreed that Musikahan sa Tagum would indeed attract a number of visitors.
“Yes, definitely. Walay laing city nga naay Musikahan,” he said.
Ayala who revealed that he spent his childhood years in Tagum City where he spent his early education and secondary years in the city said he was amazed of the transformation of the city, especially of the love for music.
He however suggested that the Musikahan to somehow give bias on cultural music appreciation and to innovate musical presentations so there would be something new to witness every annual Musikahan.
Organized by Tagum City Tourism Council, the week-long annual Musikahan of Tagum opened on February 21 with the Drum and Bugle Corp (DBC) competition making a blast of colors and musical rendition. The Pasiklaban sa Musikahan was also held on the opening day.
Musikahan will end on Friday, February 27 with the Mindanao Music Theater Awards Night capping the week-long event.
Competitions featured during the festival include Avenida Musika, Barangay Musikahan, Rondalsayaw, Raprapan at Musikahan, Himig Handog, and Biyaheng Musikihan.
Aside from the competitions, the event is also made more festive with the holding of various musical renditions at the hospitals, malls, bus terminals, and public markets. There will also be music workshops and conferences.
