Son of Philippine Embassy staff wins gold at Norway Cup Taekwondo competition
Three-time Philippine Milo Olympic gold medalist, a son of an Oslo Philippine Embassy staff won gold medal in a recently-concluded Norway Cup IV Taekwondo competition held here on October 18-19, 2008.
Khin Benjohn Marc H. Grejalde, BJ, as he is fondly called, outclassed his last opponent when he scored 8 – 1 in just one minute and 26 seconds. The referee stopped the fight and declared him the winner under the 7-point gap rule.
His second time to compete in the Norway Cup taekwondo competition, BJ won bronze during his first fight on February 16 – 17 2008.
Norges Kampsportforbund (Norway Martial Arts Federation) organized the two-day event which is held four times a year, twice before and twice after summer. More than 300 players competed in the recently-concluded event.
BJ, meanwhile, was among the seven selected players fielded by his team, the Sangrok Mudo Institute, an affiliate of Norway’s biggest taekwondo training center, Mudo Institute that was founded in 1997.
He is currently training under the tutelage of Henrik Hunstad, a consultant of the Norwegian Martial Arts Federation. Hunstad earned his International Master Instructor title after completing the course in Kukkiwon, Korea and is now a 6th dan black belter.
BJ is a regular member of the Norges Kampsportforbund (Norway Martial Arts Federation) wherein members are provided insurance and discounts on selected services and facilities and are eligible to join any martial arts competition that the Federation organizes.
BJ is the youngest and only son of Benjamin J. Grejalde, Communications Officer of the Philippine Embassy in Oslo.
