Ryan Cayabyab is Pinoy Dream Academy’s new headmaster
He’s one of the best when it comes to music–”The Maestro” Ryan Cayabyab is now the newest headmaster of ABS-CBN’s reality show “Philippine Dream Academy (PDA) Season 2.”
In an interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Cayabyab–also known as Mr. C–said that after six years of working in the corporate world, he is now back in doing his passion — music and teaching.
“This is an important show, PDA is a very important show and ako masaya ako, it’s an honor for me to be part of the show. Sorry I was out for six years I’d been doing corporate work; tamang-tama pagkatapos noon ito si Lauren saying ‘we want you in PDA if it’s okay?’ sabi ko sure,” Cayabyab said.
Cayabyab replaced PDA’s Season 1 headmaster Jim Paredes and as the newest head of the Academy, the former said audiences should expect so many changes in the academy. He will definitely give lessons that will surely mold the scholars’ talents and personalities.
“When they asked me to be onboard sa Pinoy Dream Academy, sabi ko we will really focus on honing the best entertainers, the best singers that we can. Sabi ko tanggalin muna yung mga embelishments importante muna na magagaling sila na mga performers. Kasi ‘yun ang kailangan natin ngayon, ‘yung pagiging composers nila o pagiging magagaling na dancer ay ide-defocus muna natin yan.
“Ang very importante sa akin, sabi ko, is that the performer should really be able to be original, to affect the audience and they will really have to have a lasting impression on the Filipino audience. Yun ang pinaka-importante,” he said.
Cayabyab explained that he and the judges in PDA will do much more than just sit and spew out criticism or fawn and praise contestants. Instead, they will take active roles in honing and shaping contestants’ raw talents.
“Hindi ito katulad for example ng karamihan ng mga contest na ‘yung mga judges nagki-critique lang hindi ganoon. In the academy they will really come in and we hone them. Si Kitchy (Moline) will really tell them how to sing it, Joey (Reyes) will tell them how to perform. It’s not like critique, critique lang (here) they have workshops and classes to attend. That’s the main difference.”
Cayabyab also revealed that one of the newest things for this season is the first PDA live-in-mentor.
“Something new here in PDA may live-in-mentor dito, si teacher Monet–siya ang live-in- mentor so this is something you should look forward to–this is a different take on the new PDA, ibang klase. Tignan natin kung ano ang magagawa ng isang live-in-mentor sa situation ng live-in-scholar,” the new headmaster said.
Cayabyab or Raymundo Cipriano Pujante Cayabyab in real life is a renowned Filipino composer and musician. He graduated from UP College of Music earning a Bachelor of Music, Major in Composition degree. After that, he became a full-time professor for the Department of Composition and Music Theory in the UP Diliman for almost two decades. He also worked with different personalities here and abroad.
In 2006 he worked as the only resident judge for the only season of ABC-5’s “Philippine Idol.”
